We went to the Marine Ball. Apparently Marines all over the world celebrate the birthday of the Marines at this season with a party. Around here it is open to expats to come. So, we asked a guy who sat at our table if he would take a pic. As if he were not already shorter than us (which he was) he proceded to crouch down in order to get that wonderful "up the nose" shot. Well, at least we have something. It was nice of him to try.

So you would expect there to be a flag ceremony at a Marine affair. Well, since they were celebrating the birthday they also did a cake ceremony. They barked, "post cake" It was very serious. They rolled it in on this beautifully carved cart. I imagine that cart was unique to the Nigerian celebration. After the ceremony they put the cake at the beginning of the buffet line, so spencer got a pic while we waited our turn.

Amber all dressed up for the affair.

Spencer by the flags.

Dance the night away. Expats here don't need much excuse to go out and have fun. We live in a high stress environment on a daily basis, and we don't often get the opportunity to dress up and go out to anything fancy. Attendence was good and participation in the dancing after dinner was high. I was a bit surprised. I haven't seen that kind of participation at a dance since the days of youth dances at church.
